The nikone center would be a place that served many purposes: A studio that produced and showcased, through modern designs and uses, “Lao’s” exceptional traditional skills in natural dyes silk, cotton and kheuapiad(jungle vine/KUZU) weaving. A business that promoted the implementation and continuation of environmentally friendly practices. A workplace that provided training and employment opportunities for local as well as rural women. And A place that modeled the use of locally produced raw materials. An environment that was both inviting and educational for visitors.
